KITCHENER, ON—Family-run bookbinding shop Lehmann Bookbinding is expanding its business by embracing web-to-print. The company specializes in textbook refurbishing, and short print runs of self-published material such as genealogy books in soft cover and case-bound products.

It also does a lot of one-off work. Rob Lehmann, production manager at the company, says the book industry is moving away from long runs, towards shorter, on-demand work. To meet the demand, a new website where Lehmann’s customers can send in PDFs of books, manuscripts, or college thesis’s will be up and running within the month. The shop, which also recently installed a new C.P. Bourg PUR BB3002 near-line binder to help with the new work, says the jobs will be turned around in two to three day’s time.

Lehmann Bookbinding was founded in 1913, and normally employs about 40, but that number doubles in the summer when textbook work ramps up.
